Elodie Russell

Elodie and one of Morgan’s fave books: Fox

Elodie appeared in my explore grid a month or 2 ago and I just thought she oozed the coolest vibes. So when my inbox popped up with a DM from her to shoot, I was keen as ever to link up on something. Elodie was up from Sydney for a week on the Gold Coast, working plenty and cruising.

I only had a day or 2 to pull it together, find a location, MU and stylist as well as how to shoot it. I’d begun my move into shooting video primarily but knew that E was probably looking to diversify the port a bit. So decided I’d shoot stills and some video if I could. In hindsight, focusing on multiple formats is probably something I want to do less in the future.

Jacket backwards.

Elodie moves so easily and effortlessly. Chill as ever.

A friendly Sydney-sider.

I picked Elodie up from our MUA’s house, Alana, on the morning before the shoot and we got chatting about life, presence and people. I won’t say I usually engage in DnM’s with people I’ve just met but sometimes the conversations just sway that way. I was curious if Elodie was originally from Sydney, as I feel at times, that Sydney’s about the cliquiest place in Australia. Don’t get me wrong, I was born in Manly, Sydney and still have a lot of friends based down there but I always found that people were much more closed off there than other places. Elodie didn’t give off any of this. She told me she’s from Geelong and had moved there. Suspicions confirmed.

Anyway, we arrived at Komune and met up with my good friend Morgan who had thrown together some styling options from her infinite wardrobe. From there, it was just a matter of finding the right light and winging it.

Cameras used?

I shot a mix of 35mm and 120 film.

The 35mm was a touch underexposed but this gave it a kind of grungier, grainier look that I was feeling. The 120 was shot pretty bang on and looked way cleaner, usually the case.

Cameras: Canon eos 3 w/24-70 f 2.8, Pentax 67 w/ Pentax Takumar 105 2.4
Films: Portra 400 120 film, Portra 400 35mm film, Ilford HP5 120

That’s it! Hope you liked the set. Be sure to let me know if you did or if there’s anything further you’d like me to touch on next time.

Til next time,
